CBSE Class 12 Board Exam Preparation Guide — All Streams (2026-27)

Stream-wise CBSE Class 12 board exam strategy — Science, Commerce & Humanities. NCERT-first plan, previous year papers, and subject tips. Read the guide.

Class 12 boards carry more weight than any other school exam — the marksheet follows you into college admissions, and for Science students the same syllabus feeds JEE and NEET. The good news: the CBSE paper is set from NCERT, so a disciplined NCERT-first plan works for every stream.

Start and End with NCERT

Whatever your stream, the board paper is built on NCERT chapters. Read every line — examples, boxed items, and end-of-chapter exercises included. In Chemistry and Biology especially, board questions often lift phrasing directly from NCERT paragraphs. Reference books are for extra practice, not for replacing the textbook.

Science Stream

Physics: split your effort between derivations and numericals. Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism/EMI and Optics carry the bulk of the marks. Maintain a derivation notebook — a large share of the paper is standard derivations and their direct applications.

Chemistry: the most NCERT-loyal paper of the three. Learn named reactions and conversions in Organic (Haloalkanes through Amines), practice numericals from Solutions, Electrochemistry and Kinetics, and revise the d-block and coordination chemistry lines from the textbook.

Mathematics: Calculus (Continuity through Differential Equations) is the heaviest unit, followed by Vectors and 3-D Geometry. Solve the NCERT miscellaneous exercises — board questions regularly come from there.

Biology: diagrams and NCERT terminology win marks. Genetics and Evolution plus Human Reproduction are the highest-yield units.

Commerce Stream

Accountancy rewards daily practice the way Maths does — work through formats until journal entries and statements are automatic. Business Studies answers score best when you quote NCERT headings and back them with case-study application. In Economics, practice numericals from Macro (national income, credit creation) and Micro (elasticity, cost curves).

Humanities Stream

History's three Themes volumes reward source-based practice — the passage questions are predictable if you know the chapters. Political Science answers improve dramatically when you connect chapter concepts to current examples. Geography needs map work every week, not just before the exam.

Previous Year Papers and Sample Papers

From October onward, solve past board papers under timed conditions and finish with the CBSE sample paper of the year — it signals the current pattern and question mix. Analyse every mistake: wrong concept, wrong method, or presentation gap.

Revision Plan

Keep the last month for revision only — no new topics. Flashcards for reactions, formulas, dates and definitions; one full mock per week per major subject; and sleep before the paper matters more than a final all-nighter.
